Social Enterprise Practical Experiences – An Interview with Habitat for Humanity
In the February issue of iCommunity News Quarterly we featured a case study on Habitat for Humanity and the collaboration which began in 2018 when Habitat Northern Ireland, launched in 1993, and Habitat Ireland, working in the Republic since 2002, joined forces. Recently, Jenny Williams, Chief Executive for Habitat for Humanity Ireland, sat down with Suzie Cahn, coordinator for iCommunity, to discuss the strategies surrounding the ongoing expansion of Habitat ReStore.
With the first branch in the Republic opening its doors in Drogheda in 2022, Jenny and Suzie discuss how ReStore is already producing tangible social benefits for entire communities by helping local people access low-cost materials to help improve their homes, generating employment opportunities, providing on-the-job training, and reducing waste.
They also discuss ReStore’s growth in detail, covering recent corporate sponsorships, community partnerships, volunteering and staff resources, and developing a truly self-sustaining social enterprise.
